Heat Darkens the Henna Stain
Using heat on your henna will darken the stain. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Once your henna dries, you can use a blow dryer to build up the temperature.
Wrap Your Skin with Cellophane
You can build up the heat by wrapping up your skin with a cellophane wrap. It not only keeps the henna intact but makes it darker as well.
Use Something Acidic
Take the notch up a recipe by mixing acidic and alkaline ingredients. Add lemon juice to henna and mix well. It is a great remedy to achieve a darker henna stain.
Essential Oils for the Win
Grab your favorite essential oil and add a drop or two to your henna mix before making a cone out of it. It will make your henna both smell and look gorgeous.
Coffee is Henna Best Friend
Coffee not only lifts up your mood but also lifts your henna pigment. Add a teaspoon of coffee to your henna mixture. It will darken the color and give it a reddish-brown tint we all envy.
Black Tea Darkens the Color
Black tea is another amazing way to darken up the tint. Simply brew up some tea leaves and add the black tea to the henna mix instead of water and mix well.
Sugar Makes the Henna Darker
Adding a teaspoon of powdered sugar to the henna paste is the easiest way to darken the color of your henna.
Lemon Juice and Sugar Mix
Once your henna dries, apply lemon juice and a sugar mix on your henna with the help of a cotton ball. Wash off once the mix dries.
Caring for Your Henna Body Art
Now that you have achieved a darker henna stain, it is time to care for your henna. First things first, prep is the key. Simply wash off your hands with soap and water, pat dry. Make sure there is no moisture on your skin before applying henna. Use one of the above-mentioned tips to create a henna paste before we move on to the maintenance part.
- Once the henna dries off and you have left it on for an adequate time period, scrape it off instead of washing it. You can use cellophane wrap to make sure your henna stays intact and isn’t rubbing off everywhere.
- Wash your skin off with water after 12 hours. Try not to use soap for a period of 24 hours.
- Apply almond oil or any other oil of your choice to your skin and massage it in to darken the stain.
- If you have applied henna on your hands, use gloves prior to doing the dishes or any house chore that involves soap.
The basis of a great henna stain is buying good quality, organic henna. It is the foundation of a fabulous-looking stain. All the tips mentioned in this article help but purchasing a great henna powder is the first step. We personally recommend purchasing henna from ‘The Henna Guys’ as it is a completely organic brand. Stay clear of premade henna cones as they do more harm than good. Make your own cones and see the magic of henna tattoos!
